That's exactly what pissed me off about them... but... if you're in a kill streak... and a really good one... and you're about to kill another guard but the Janissary attacks... and you can counter... Ezio will actually kill him... the only side effect is that it doesn't happen very often. Also, something funny about the Janissaries.... when they are going to shoot you and you shoot them before they shoot you... there will be a rare moment when they back up again and try to shoot you... and if you shoo tthem again.. it'll repeat until their dead...
