I'll state what I think I know: 1) If it's red in eagle vision, it's either an enemy (like in the animus) or blood (like the symbols in Abstergo which was drawn via Subject 16's blood). 2) The footprints start from the back part of the mansion to the bottom of the stairs. (I'm guessing it does not stop there and continues under the nearby drain.) 3) They are multiple footprints and if you pay attention, you'll see that it's a repeating pattern.. I used to think that it was for returning purposes when you navigate the present day Monteriggioni but now, I'm positive that I'm wrong.. However, I'm more positive that it is blood (Probably at the time when Monteriggioni was attacked.) because if it's from an enemy/Templar, Why isn't Warren Vidic's footprints visible back when Desmond saw the blood symbols.. It could be from the townsmen maybe? But that would be stupid and it won't give a good twist to the story. And it's really interesting that it ends (or starts) near the drain thingy..

I wish more people would comment because I'm really interested at this matter.
