I can't get the hang of the defense break in AC1.

Actually as long as you don't get hit by something, nothing can break a kill-streak. Even getting grabbed doesn't affect it if you get loose quickly. I hated that its gone in AC3 where you have to start a new kill-streak every bloody time.
