Wrong -- it was stated by Desilet. And why else would a random assassin family get the armor of the GREATEST assasin ever? A armor made with a rare and unique technology that if fell into wrong hands could change the course of history?

Ezio was planned to be Altairs descendant, the game informer article on AC2 said that. They just came and changed for... God knows why.
