Its a really good song and like you said, it is really fitting to Ezio's life. And your thought/theory about them doing some soul-searching sounds like it could be right because Ezio has been doubting his role as an Assassin but i think Desmond is just trying to get out of the Animus' Black Room. He may do some soul-searching but probably not as much as Ezio.
