You're kidding right?  The fact that he could be a runaway is a fantastic idea.  If he was just some footsoldier there would probably be less interest in him.  He does things his own way and that should be why he's a good character.  The weaknesses of all of the assassin's at at least one point was their absolute loyalty to the Creed.  Altair was the one I liked best to be honest because he was sarcastic and rebelious to an extent.  Ezio's character was exhausted after ACII and Connor was okay, but he could have used a slightly more fun side of his personality.
