Which kind of proves what I mention about the tomahawk being for the trees, but buildings might be out of the question.

Also, considering that there's a war going on, I don't see how a rifle would break Connor's disguise. There would have been many soldiers around, with rifles of their own, so it isn't hard to imagine.
