Ubisoft prides themselves on being historically inaccurate. Though the black attire isn't entirely bullshit, it was never some sort of uniform shinobi wore constantly or always used. The black attire was normal Japnese clothing for the time. All they did was wear a mask over it. Besides, they don't HAVE to do shinobi, though it would make interesting conflict due to how similar their training would be to an Assassin's. Interesting in gameplay especially.
