I think the backlash is more about the excuse Ubisoft gave though, saying that it was "a reality of game development", when it really was a choice on what they wanted to prioritize. I'm sure that, if they'd been more upfront about it, the controversy wouldn't have reached such proportions. 

I do think that the AC games are due for a female protagonist, in one of the main entries. Not that the fact that Unity has another male protagonist makes me hate Unity or anything, especially after I discovered the four male characters were just different iterations of Arno.
