I really hope they will go further back in history. Personaly I think they should stay away from 20th century. But if Syndicate really turns out to be set entirely in 1868 I wouldn't mind a sequel in 1870s or 1880s.

I still want a game in Napolonic period though. A big game with biggest story ever in AC with multiple protagonists and a lot of different cities (maybe reacreate Paris from Unity,London from Syndicate, and some new ones like Moscow or St.Petersburg and Vienna) and also with next gen (this gen) naval combat (napoleonic era is pefect for naval combat) but that would also be farewell to Europe and western world and future games would be set in far east like Japan or China. Or at least ancient Rome or something diffrent. And of course new for AC games.
