As if the Templars haven't killed anyone "trying to make the world a better place". Connor is by no stretch of the imagination "dark" for killing a few Templars. He did plenty of good by allowing the revolution to continue. Without him, the USA probably wouldn't have taken off, and they'd be stuck under Britain's rule. Not that that's so bad now, but back then, it wasn't so great.
