Black Flag was the same and i agree with some of what you are saying, the brawling and stealing an innocent womens horse drawn carrige while assaulting her is not really what any previous assassin would do. 

But as long as it sticks to the main theme and assassins vs templars ETC it should fit together convincingly, but i will be mad if they make the protagonist a brash jerk but they probably will, the intro to Jacob so far has been generic and really stale "pulling a knive out and stated stabing and shooting some random people in a dark cloak while smerking?"
