Well, Abstergo Entertainment has to also attend the public part of the company, since it is an ""Entertainment"" company after all. So, they could research a person's ancestor just make entertainment material, like a VR Paris Simulator :v What i mean, AE is not all about investigating Sages and Pieces of Eden. Like @Bovkaffe said, Bernard was justa farmer, and Abstergo investigated him as well.
