If this is true, I will be so happy. Despite Syndicate being great (along with Black Flag, the only one so far in which I have gone for 100% sync in my first playthrough, not because I'm a completionist, but because the world is so enjoyable), I certainly feel that the series is suffering some franchise fatigue (or at least I am), especially with the modern day setting, which has improved in Syndicate compared to Unity but nothing compared to Brotherhood's. So I feel that a year break from a main AC game would serve the franchise very well, and it's not like we'll be getting a lack of the franchise - as other's have pointed out, there's still Chronicles and the movie to come this year, plus possibly an Assassin's Creed Collection considering that the URL assassinscreedcollection.com was recently registered by Ubisoft.

As for the premise of the rumoured Egypt game, it's got me excited. Not been craving Egypt particularly much but it seems like a suitable setting for AC, and finally goes back hundreds (maybe even thousands) of years from the latest entry, which (other than a Victorian setting which Syndicate has delivered with aplomb) is the one thing I have wanted most for the 'next' AC since 3. Also happy that they're apparently going for a Witcher feel, Witcher 3 certainly wins GoTY for me (just ahead of Fallout 4) and if they can make something that feels alot like that I would absolutely love it.

Overall I would be very happy if this is true then ^__^
