Ancient Egypt ended at the latest 525 BC, according to most historians. And the reason it can't be further back than 700 BC (well, 8th century, so 800 BC; my bad) is due to the fact that ancient Greece/Rome both technically cropped up around that time. That's assuming they want to bring the protagonist to either of these locations.
