Zero-ELEC,  I did see that it said the posters were put up by his friends in New York. 


However, in the first game when Desmond and Lucy are talking about how Abstergo could have found him. Desmond states that he didn’t use his real name when he was in New York. How could his friends in New York use his real name on the posters if they didn’t know his real name? The assassins were the only ones that knew his real name.

This could also be due to writers forgetting details from older games.
