I think she has a really interesting backstory, having endured the Russian Brotherhood's deteriotation and survived its eventual destruction. She witnessed countless Animus subjects be driven insane by her mother's experiments yet when she was sent into the machine she remained mentally stable and repelled the Bleeding Effect. Plus her combat skills are really good and she's already part of the crew of Altair II so I think she's be a perfect protagonist.
