I always assumed the next modern day protagonist would be a descendant of Eve, and after a few games, she'd somehow join forces with Desmond for the conclusion of the series. But then Desmond died.

I highly doubt anything is gonna happen at this point as Desmond's finished. If he hasn't been stated to be Eve's descendant at this point, I highly doubt they're gonna introduce that later on now.
