Speculation. Alan Rikkin has the highest status of any Templar only second to the General of the Cross, and as a Guardian it is one of his duties to review major decisions before passing them on to the General of the Cross for approval. That seems what he is doing to her in the trailer, it seems as if he is reporting to her.
