I haven't actually played any of the games apart from Black Flag, but I've research and probably watched so many walkthrough videos i am experg level. So I have a INSANELY crazy theory. What if, up till the very, very start of Black Flag, you were actually playing as a person who was in the animus for an extended period of time and relieving hus memories? I know there's probably loads of plot holes and evidence to prove this wrong, but it could be true.
