With the Sanctuary of Monteriggioni as proof, it's a fact that there were Assassins before him; but not as we know them.

As Sol Pacificus says, it's a little too confusing this "origins" stuff. Why does it say "the brotherhood begins" if it already begun thousands of years ago? Perhaps the answer is the next one: Bayek is the creator of the three tenets of the Assassin's Creed: never kill an innocent, hide in plain sight and never compromise the brotherhood.

Maybe we'll witness the beginning of the last consolidation of the creed that endure the dangers of time until the present day.
