I agree that the modern day timeline should gain a little more importance to prevent it from becoming little more than a framing device, but I think in regards to historical eras portrayed, Ubisoft should go for times that are rather controversial or where controversial topics can be discussed. You could possibly do this with Feudal Japan and especially around the time of the Bakumatsu, but I'm also thinking of periods like the Gilded Age and Southern Reconstruction in the US and the October Revolution in Russia. A lot of the reason for setting the games in historical periods is to challenge misinformed notions held of the eras and I think Ubisoft shouldn't lose sight of that in bids for money.
