After the death of Yuan Shikai, no warlords had enough power to control the whole of China and they fought each other. Sun Yat-Sen advocated the United Front which united KMT and CCP to against the warlord after he met Adolph Joffe.  In fact, the United Front is the way to unite different classes of workers and overthrow KMT. After Canton Coup and Shanghai massacre, Sun's wife, Soong Ching-ling, opposed the violent suppression of CCP. After PCR was established, Soong served as Vice President of the People's Republic of China and Vice-Chairperson of the National People's Congress.
