His death is depicted in Assassin's Creed: Forsaken, the book written to tie in to the release of ACIII. Edward doesn't exactly go out in a blaze of glory but the book was written before Black Flag was released so I think it's forgivable, and besides, in reality not everyone gets the chance to make a heroic last stand, some people can and do just... die.
