Disclaimer: I have a theory about the entire AC franchise, but I'm not entirely sure how much merit there is to it.

So in the first few AC games you play as Desmond Miles from a third person POV... So what if you were never really Desmond to begin with?

Bare with me while I explain.

When you 'play as Desmond' who is playing as another character, you are playing 3rd person POV. In AC4, Desmond is gone but now you are suddenly playing in 1st person. They continued this change in Unity and Rogue.

Here is my theory: Is it possible that in AC1-3 you were playing as another character who played as Desmond who played as Altair, Ezio, Connor, and Haytham?
