Ēostre or Ostara was a pagan festival celebrated by Germanic people before being appropriated by Christianity as it spread through Northern Europe. It was celebrated at the start of spring. The name of the festival was derived from Ēostre, goddess of spring.

History

Ostara festivals were held at Ravensthorpe, where the settlement was donned with flowers and other decorations.[1] Participants could enter in events like searching for hidden eggs[2], an archery competition[3] and brawling in an arena.[4]

The custom to search for colorful hidden eggs also originated from the goddess Ēostre, who was said to have send birds that changed into hares, after which they laid colored eggs.[5]

Behind the scenes

As part of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's post-launch content, an Ostara festival event was be added to the settlement mechanic for a limited time.
