Æthelstan (894 – 939) was the son of Edward the Elder and later ruled as King of the Anglo-Saxons from 924 until 927, then as King of the English from 927 until his death.

Biography

Life as ætheling

Æthelstan followed his father Edward in continuing his grandfather's legacy in uniting all of England by driving out the Vikings. Together they would go on to defeat the Danish princes of East Anglia, the five boroughs and Jórvík.[1]

Legacy

Generation's after his reign and death, his eventual successor, King Edgar would undo all his father's and his hard work trying to purge their lands of Danes due to his overly peaceful reign allowing the Vikings to regroup.[1]
