Æscwine (died 676) was King of Wessex from 674 until his death.
In 675, Æscwine fought and defeated King Wulfhere of Mercia for control over Sussex. After Æscwine's death a year later, he was buried in a tomb mound in the south of Essex.[1] Sometime after his burial his hoard of treasure was stolen by a man who fled to Colcestre with them. They then hid from bandits in a cave, although he died from eating poisonous mushrooms for nutrients.[2]
