Xiongnu

The Xiongnu were a confederation of nomadic peoples who inhabited the eastern Eurasian Steppe north of China from the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE. ^{[citation needed]}

From at least since the 3rd century BCE, the Xiongnu have led raids into China. ^{[citation needed]} In response, Qin Shi Huang ordered the construction of the Great Wall to defend against the raiders. ^{[citation needed]} One such person who participated in its defense was the adopted child of the Wei Yu, who assassinated the Emperor in 210 BCE.
