Wu Zetian (Chinese: 武則天; c. 624-705) was the first and only Empress Regnant of China. After becoming empress consort to Emperor Gaozong of Tang in 655, she acted as the real power behind the throne for decades, ultimately deposing her son Emperor Ruizong in 690, declared herself empress regnant, and proclaimed the new Zhou dynasty. After fifteen years of draconian rule, she was herself overthrown in a coup d'état in 705, and the Tang dynasty was restored, whereupon she died some months later.
During the her period, the fish bag representing the official identity token was changed to a turtle bag. Five years later, Li Xian changed the turtle bag back to the fish bag. However, the term tortoise bag continued and became the code name of the Chinese Order of the Ancients in the early days of Tianbao. Historically, only the grand chancellor could serve as the leader of the Golden Turtle Bag.
