The city of Megara in the valley

The Valley of King Lelex is a valley which consitute the southeastern part of Megaris, named after Lelex, a king of Lakonia in Greek mythology. It housed the town of Megara, which in classical antiquity was a small city-state in ancient Greece.

History

In 431 BCE, the valley was visited by the misthios Kassandra on the request of the Spartan officer Stentor to eliminate the Athenian military presence in the region. Kassandra did so by infiltrating the Port of Nisaia and destroying the supplies stored there.[1] Once Athens control over the region was subdued, Kassandra weakened the Athenian forces further by eliminating the leader stationed in Megara.[2]

As a much needed distraction, Kassandra found Odessa's home and reconnected with her. Together they uncovered a plot by the leader of Megaris to eliminate Odessa, after Odessa had refused suitors set on taking on her farm.[3] Kassandra helped her to uncover the Megarian leader's motive for trying to kill her.[4]

During her time in the valley, Kassandra also met a blind Persian beggar in Megara who revealed himself to be Artaxerxes I, the rightful King of Persia who had been forcefully exiled. Artaxerxes tasked Kassandra with visiting various landmarks documented by the late Themistokles, an ostracized Athenian general whom he had befriended many years ago. After Kassandra had done so and recovered Themistokles' documents, she returned and protected Artaxerxes from a Persian assassin, before being given a treasure location to collect her reward.[5]
