The Valley of King Lelex is a valley in southeastern Megaris. It housed the town of Megara, which in classical antiquity was a small city-state in ancient Greece.

The valley was named after Lelex, a king of Lakonia in Greek mythology.[1]

History

The Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the region in 431 BCE, when asked by Stentor to eliminate the Athenian military presence in the polis. Kassandra entered Fort Geraneia and stole from the national treasury, crippling Athens economy in the region.[2] Once Athens control over the region was subdued, Kassandra weakened the Athenian forces further by eliminating the leader stationed in Megara.[3]

As a much needed distraction, Kassandra found Odessa's home and reconnected with her. Together they uncovered a plot by the leader of Megaris to eliminate Odessa, after Odessa had refused suitors set on taking on her farm.[4] After dealing with the Megarian leader, Odessa joined Kassandra's crew.[5]

During her travels in the region, Kassandra also met a blind Persian beggar who revealed himself to be Artaxerxes I, the rightful ruler of Persia. Artaxerxes tasked Kassandra with seeing the sight of Greece he could not and finding the writings of Themistokles – an Athenian ostracized general he had befriend many years ago. After seeing the sights, Kassandra returned, and after protecting Artaxerxes from an attempted assassination collected her reward.[6]
