2011 Egyptian revolution

The Egyptian revolution of 2011 was part of a larger wave of revolutions throughout the Middle East known as the Arab Spring.

History

In January 2011, protests against then-president Hosni Mubarak and his regime erupted in Cairo and other Egyptian cities. Egyptian expatriate Layla Hassan, feeling the need for revolution, asked for a leave of absence from her occupation at Abstergo Industries and returned to her home country. She was present for the Tahrir Square demonstrations. Although her fluency in Arabic was minimal, she managed to become strongly involved in the country's revolutionary youth culture. She helped her new friends communicate via social media and also in hacking digital devices despite the widespread government censorship.
