Turtles are an order of reptiles known as Testudines which are characterized by the protective shell developed from their ribs that enclose their body.[1]
In West Francia, the late 9th century Viking jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan once hunted three regular European pond turtles to offer at the altar Sarclitas.[2]
During the Seven Years' War, Shay Cormac found a cave painting of a great turtle as part of the story of the Sky Woman. The painting depicted the great turtle that carried a part of Earth on its back. As time passed on, the turtle and the earth on its back grew to be an island, which would be called North America.[3]
