Turo (died 48 BCE) was an Egyptian scavenger who resided in Giza, Egypt during the 1st century BCE.

Biography

Turo was a scavenger who lived with his fellow scavengers Oba, Nebti and Rashidi in the Eastern Cemetery Mastaba during the 1st century BCE. At some point in 48 BCE, Turo accompanied Rashidi in the region, who recovered a ring from a tomb and claimed it to be worth millions of drachmae. This caused his fellow brethren to become obsessed with the ring and sought to claim it for themselves.[1]

At some point Turo punched Rashidi in the face, took the ring and caused Rashidi to be captured by bandits from Khentkawes Hideout. Turo fled to the northwest, running away from the bandits who chased after him. Eventually, he sought shelter in the ruins of Hemon Mastaba, unaware that it had been overrun by hyenas. Turo was mauled to death by one of the hyenas, which bit off his hand wearing the ring.[1]

Turo's fate was eventually discovered by the Medjay Bayek of Siwa who followed the trails of the scavengers.[1]
