The Thirteen Colonies were the colonies of Great Britain on the Atlantic coast of North America founded between 1607 (Virginia) and 1733 (Georgia).
During the later half of the 18th century, the American Revolution ignited and the Thirteen Colonies claimed their independence from Great Britain through the Continental Congress in 1776. In 1783, the Thirteen Colonies officially transitioned into the United States.
