The Mentor's Keeper is a memory in Assassin's Creed: Revelations.

Description

At the age of 24, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad returns to Masyaf on horseback and finds the mountainous village under siege. After seeing a fellow Assassin fending off two Templars with increasing difficulty, Altaïr quickly decides to intervene when one slashes the Assassin's leg, in order to save his comrade from death.

Using his sword, Altaïr cuts down one of the Crusader Templars before dismounting, and swiftly takes down the second with one of his throwing knives. He then walks over to assist the injured Assassin, using his shoulder as a support for him, until they both reach a bench. After sitting the Assassin down and asking about his wound, Altaïr responds to the man's query about his identity, simply responding that he is the son of Umar. Soon afterwards, Abbas Sofian arrives and tells Altaïr that the fortress was engulfed, to which he asks where Al Mualim was located, with Abbas replying that he was inside the castle when the war started.

Although knowing that they had been overwhelmed by the Templars, Altaïr decides to help his fellow Assassins from the invading Templars. After finding out that they had been betrayed from within by a Templar agent, Altaïr gives Abbas the order to flank the fortress, while he sets off into the village to provide support for the Assassins in battle.

Upon reaching the fortress' gates, Altaïr is stopped by the Templar agent who had commanded the attack, claiming that he would kill Al Mualim if he came closer. After a short conversation between the two, the Templar closes the gates on Altaïr, before making his way to the courtyard where he was executing Assassin hostages in a firing line. By climbing the walls from a wooden scaffold, Altaïr took an alternate route around the fortress, before killing the Templar with his hidden blade, though he was unable to save all of Assassins that were held in the courtyard.

Dialogue

Altaïr- Are you hurt?

Assassin- Broken foot. Who are you, brother?

Altaïr- Altaïr. Son of Umar.

Abbas- Altaïr! We have been betrayed. The enemy has overrun the castle!

Altaïr- You’ll live. (to Abbas) And Al Mualim? Where is he?

Abbas- He was inside when the Crusaders broke through. We can do nothing for him now. Altaïr! We must fall back!

Altaïr- When I close the castle gate, flank the Crusaders in the village and drive them into the canyon.

Abbas- You don’t stand a chance!

Altaïr- Abbas! No mistakes.

The Crusader- Another step and your mentor dies!

Altaïr- You will not leave this place alive, traitor.

The Crusader- I am not a traitor, for I cannot betray those I never truly loved.

Altaïr- Then you are doubly wretched, for you have been living a lie.

The Crusader- You put too much faith in the hearts of men, Altaïr. Humans are base, weak and petty.

Altaïr- No. Our Creed is evidence to the contrary.

The Crusader- You would say that, ignorant as you are…

Al Mualim- You offered him a chance at redemption. Why?

Altaïr- No man should pass from this world without knowing some kindness.

Al Mualim- But he shunned your graces.

Altaïr- As was his right.

Al Mualim- You remind me of your father so much. You are his spitting image, my child.

Altaïr- I did not know him well as a father…He was an Assassin above all.

Al Mualim- You too are a part of this Order? Do you regret it?

Altaïr- How can I regret the only life I have ever known?

Al Mualim-

Outcome

Altaïr saves Al Mualim.
