Sukyo-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple situated in southern Miyazu Bay in Tamba, Japan.
History
In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke arrived at the temple and met with daimyō Hosokawa Fujitaka. There, he asked for their help to investigate a smuggling ring within his own silver business. Thus, he had his second-in-command Yoshisada provide them with the first clue into the investigation. Upon their agreement, the pair discovered the members of the ring, criminals either allied with the Akechi clan or were Portuguese merchants, and assassinated them, only to find out Yoshisada was the mastermind behind it.[1]
Naoe and Yasuke returned back to the temple and informed Fujitaka of their findings but the lord denied the claim and wanted evidence. After the pair confronted Yoshisada at Miyazu Castle and defeated him. Collecting a confession from Yoshisada's personal effects, they shared their findings with Fujitaka at the temple, much to his disappointment. Thanking them for their aid, Fujitaka gifted them gold and decided not to ally himself with the Akechi clan.[1] At some point, they returned to the temple and recovered two pages from its grounds.[2]
