I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name?
This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given.
They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Subject 1.

This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias.

Subject 1 (died January 1981) was the first participant of Abstergo Industries' experimental phase of the Animus Project.

In 1980, he was made to view the genetic memories of his ancestor, Aveline de Grandpré, while they were recorded by Abstergo. Eventually, in 2012, the memories were used as the basis for the Abstergo Entertainment video game, Liberation.

Subject 1 died of a seizure whilst in the Animus, due to the undiscovered dangers of overexposure to the device.[1] Like many others who followed him in the program, his body was disposed of in a nearby river.

In 2013, a research analyst working for Abstergo Entertainment accessed an audio recording of an interview between the Subject and Warren Vidic, head of the Animus Project.[2] In the interview, conducted between sessions in the Animus, Vidic questioned the Subject on his experiences in the Animus and expressed that Gérald Blanc may have been the Subject's missing ancestor, but the file abruptly ended shortly after.[3]
