The Sigrblot held at Ravensthorpe

Sigrblot was a pagan festival celebrated by Norse people during the Viking expansion as a sacrifice to the gods in hopes for victory in war. It was celebrated a month after the vernal equinox to usher in the summer raiding season.

History

Sigrblot festivals were held at Ravensthorpe, where the settlement was furnished with altars and other decorations.[1] Residents gathered supplies for the upcoming raiding season,[2] prepared offerings to the gods,[3][4] and tested weaponry in an arena.[5] Flyting[6] and orlog[7] were also part of the festivities.

A specific Sigrblot was held at Ravensthorpe in 885 as they prepared to join Vikings under Sigfred in his raids against Paris and Charles the Fat.

Behind the scenes

As part of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's post-launch content, a Sigrbolt festival event was added to the settlement mechanic for a limited time. The first in-game event ran from 29 July until 19 August 2021, a second event ran from 4 August until 25 August 2022.
