Septimius Severus (Latin: Lucius Septimius Severus Eusebes Pertinax Augustus; 145 – 211), also known as Severus, was Roman Emperor from 193 to his death. He was the founder of the Severan dynasty.
Biography
In 203, following his Parthian victories, a triumphal arch was built in commemoration of the events.[1]
In early February 211, Severus arrived in Britannia to oversee the fortification and reoccupation of the Antonine wall, blatantly disregarding the previously established treaty of Marcus Aurelius. On 4 February, his Eboracum villa was infiltrated by the Hidden One magister Khloe who poisoned the emperor, fulfilling an assassination contract.[2]
After he died, Septimius was succeeded by his sons Caracalla and Geta, who shortly shared rule as joint emperors before Caracalla had Geta killed.[1]
