The Senussi (Arabic: السنوسية, romanized: as-Sanūssiyya) are a Muslim political-religious order and clan in Libya and surrounding regions founded in 1837.[1]

In 1917, a group of Senussi mercenaries was hired to protect an encampment of the Instruments of the First Will in the Siwa Oasis, Egypt. They were considered capable combatants and expert desert guerrillas and, at the time, made use of Ottoman weaponry.[2]
