Scotus was a Frankish philosopher who lived during the 9th century.

Based in Ireland during the mid-9th century, Scotus received a letter from Roger Despierres, an advisor in the court of King Charles of West Francia. In the letter, Scotus was instructed by Roger to investigate the validity of the myths surrounding an Irish giant who was said to have built a bridge over the sea in Ulster.[1]
