Sada was a Japanese woman and the widow of Sugitani Zenjūbō who lived in the Wakasa province during the late Sengoku period.

Biography[edit | edit source]

By 1573, Sada and her son had escaped the wrath of the Oda clan with the help of Shōtei and his daughter Rokkaku Katsuhime after her husband failed in his assassination attempt of Oda Nobunaga and was executed as a result. For nearly a decade, she and her son hid in the village of Kumagawa-Juku under the Rokkaku clan's protection.[1]

In 1582, Sada and her son were attacked by bandits, who sought to steal her deceased husband's teppō. Although she did not hold it, Sada and her son were abducted and brought to a secluded place to be further interrogated. However, Sada held her own and wounded some of her attackers. Being held, she and her son were fortunately rescued by Katsuhime and her ally, the Kakushiba ikki member and shinobi Fujibayashi Naoe, who killed their attackers.[1]

As she thanked the pair for their help, Sada admitted that she had learned her husband's teppō had been stolen from Azuchi Castle and taken to Ōmizo Castle. With this information, Katsuhime left and promised to retake her mentor's teppō.[1]
