Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Baronet FRS (1788 – 1850) was a British politician who served twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and twice as Home Secretary.

In 1829, Robert Peel founded the Metropolitan Police Service and decided that their headquarter would be located in the vicinity of Scotland Yard. With the main office backing onto Great Scotland Yard, the police force later became colloquially known as "Scotland Yard".[1]
