Rashid

Rashid was an Egyptian Hidden One operating in Alexandria, Egypt in the 9th century. In 870, he was sent to Antioch along with other three Hidden Ones to answer the request for help sent by Basim Ibn Ishaq. He was the brother of Sihem.

Biography

Having travelled to Antioch several times before, Rashid was chosen to be part of the group sent to Antioch in 870, alongside Jessamyn, Kalim, and his sister Sihem. With his knowledge of the city, he led the group to the local bureau, where they met with Basim and Hytham. Shortly after, they met with the Frankish Hidden Ones Oisel and Matthias from Chinon and took the pair to meet with Basim, who instructed the two groups to travel along the Silk Road towards Chang'an to stop the Snake-Eaters, an Order of the Ancients branch.

After three months on the road, their caravan reached an Order stronghold. Rashid and the other Alexandrians engaged the soldiers in red while Oisel and Matthias went after Dunya, their leader. When the pair failed to return, their companions left, believing they were dead. They continued east, eventually coming upon an injured Oisel, who had managed to escape. Months later, the group arrived at their destination and attacked Dunya.

Personality and traits

Described as subtle, Rashid excelled in stealth, and during their quest he taught Oisel how to be more inconspicuous. Rashid disliked political intrigue, and also had knowledge as a healer. He worked well with his sister, being sent out several times to collect information together.

Behind the scenes

Due to the novel's nature as a choose your own adventure book, there are different outcomes. Particularly, Rashid may die during the attack on Dunya at Chang'an. Should he survive, he and Sihem remain in the city as the Mentors of the newly established bureau.
