Pont au Double
The Pont au Double is a bridge in Paris that connects the Île de la Cité with the southern bank of the Seine.
The original Pont au Double was constructed in 1515 under Francis I in order to allow for the transportation of patients to the Hôtel-Dieu. The bridge took its name from the toll that was imposed to pay for its constuction, a "double" denier. As the toll was extremely unpopular, it was removed in 1789.
