Photina
Photina was a Naxian woman active during the Peloponnesian War on the island of Naxos.
Years ago, Photina married a sailor named Meliton. however when her husband went out sailing and did not return, Photina assumed he was dead. Before he disappeared, Meliton gave Photina his medallion necklace.[1]
In around 428 BCE, Photina met and fell in love with Barnabas, captain of the Adrestia. She tattooed his back and braided his hair during the months they were together.[2] When Barnabas was called away by the Spartan misthios Kassandra to sail to Sparta, Photina and Barnabas parted ways. As a parting gift and as a token of their short love Photina gave Barnabas an medallion, previously owned by her husband. Although the two enjoyed each other's company, Barnabas' seafaring lifestyle led them apart.[1]
