Philip le Bel.

Philip IV (April or June 1268 – 29 November 1314), also known as Philip the Fair, was the King of France from 1285 until his death in 1314. He was the husband of Joan I of Navarre, to which he was – as Philip I – King of Navarre and Count of Champagne from 1284 to 1305, by virtue of marriage.

In the early 14th century, Philip IV was unknowingly influenced by the Assassins to make Pope Clement V turn against the Templars,[1] ensuring that the Order was condemned as heretics by the Catholic Church. Philip had Grand Master Jacques de Molay and sixty other Templars arrested, and the subsequent trials, confessions and executions spelled the end of the Order's public era.[2]
