Pelops was king of Pisa in the Peloponnese, a region of Greece that was named after him in Greek mythology.

Pelops was venerated in Olympia, Elis, so much so that his cult devleoped into the founding myth of the Olympic Games, and a black ram was sacrificed in his honor every year. In addition, a shrine, allegedly his tomb, was erected in the city as well.[1]
